Largs lies on the Ayrshire coast of the Firth of Clyde, west of Kilbirnie and north of Fairlie. In the 19th century the town flourished as a seaside resort, with holiday-makers flocking to enjoy the pebble beaches and refreshments at cafes including the famous Nardini's. Largs is the port for the ferry serving Millport and the Great Cumbrae and the paddle steamer Waverley. The town hosts an annual Viking festival, marking the last invasion of the UK mainland in 1263. Sparks fly about traffic

It seems traffic issues are never far from the front page in Largs. At the moment there's the debate about road contractor Amey throwing a late spanner in the works of the long-awaited Largs Traffic Management plan. Add to that the fact that potholes and damaged roads could be a big problem in the coming months after the recent big freeze blew a big hole in budgets both for emergency winter maintenance and road repairs.
