Largs fire engine coming home to raise cancer awareness
17 AugustA south coast couple are driving a restored Largs fire engine back here to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
Michael Jones was diagnosed with the disease at the end of last year after going for a check-up. He had no symptoms - he was just prompted to go when he saw a newspaper ad for prostate cancer charity the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust.
Grateful Michael and his wife Grace own a restored fire engine which was once stationed here in Largs - and now they plan to drive it back here later this month to raise the profile of the charity.
The journey will take around a week from their home in St Leonards' near Bournemouth and the couple will hand out leaflets along the way at motorway service stations and shopping centres urging men to get checked.
Michael said: "I had no symptoms whatsoever. My main objective is to raise awareness.
"Any money I collect will go to the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust."
