Largs man Stewart takes road to the isles for new job
23 AugustA Largs man has moved to Canna to take over as manager of the tiny Hebridean island for the National Trust for Scotland.
Stewart Connor (48) has moved to Canna to take on the job - with his arrival on the island brings the population on island to 20.Â
"I'm absolutely delighted to have landed the role," said Stewart, "and am very much looking forward to the challenge.
"The community on Canna is bursting with ideas and a large part of my job will be to work closely with them to look at how we can develop the island in the future."
Canna is the most remote of the Small Isles and life on the wind-swept island can be tough. But Stewart, who has spent most of his working life as a building surveyor and project manager in the construction industry, sees the posting as an opportunity of a lifetime. As part of his role, the Trust will fund Stewart to learn to speak Gaelic.
"I've always had a strong interest in Scottish history and culture, and when I saw the job advertised I jumped at it," added Stewart.
