Largs Recycling Centre closed three months for upgrade
Largs Recycling Centre is to close for around three months whilst it undergoes a major upgrade.
From Sunday 4th March, the centre will close for refurbishment, which will mean marked improvements for site users. It will also allow the centre to provide the same services as other household waste and recycling centres across North Ayrshire.
The centre will be upgraded to allow a wider range of waste materials to be separated for recycling helping to divert more waste from landfill. The improvements will increase capacity with new containers to allow the separation of wood, chipboard and garden waste for recycling.
This will mean that separated waste will no longer be processed and separated by third parties – meaning greater value for North Ayrshire. Users will find improved facilities, including toilets and first aid and parking areas.
People visiting the site will find it much easier to separate their waste. New Recycle for Scotland signs will be introduced making it clearer what materials can be separated for recycling. By making it easier to recycle, the council will continue to increase the amount of waste it recycles, making North Ayrshire a greener place for all of its residents.
Greater security, to prevent illegal dumping and other criminal activity, will also be put in place. Like other North Ayrshire centres, the new Largs centre will have CCTV cameras linked to local police, along with security lighting and fences.
Upgrade works will last around 12 weeks. In the meantime householders can use the alternative sites within North Ayrshire which are located at:
Kilbirnie Household Waste Recycling Centre, Paddockholm Road, Kilbirnie. KA27 7JW.
Bartonholm Household Waste Recycling Centre, Sandy Road, Irvine. KA12 8SN.
Dreghorn Household Waste Recycling Centre, Station Brae, Dreghorn, Irvine. KA11 4AJ.
