Largs town centre to get three CCTV cameras by March
18 DecemberThree will be erected in Dalry as part of the town's Regeneration Scheme. Another two will be sited in Kilbirnie and three in Largs.
Chair of North Ayrshire CCTV Ltd Councillor Margaret McDougall said: "This is great news for the communities of Dalry, Kilbirnie and Largs. CCTV cameras are perceived as playing an important role in preventing crime and providing reassurance to the public that our town centres are safe places to frequent."
The cost of the cameras, which will be monitored round-the-clock, is £250,000. All should be installed by the end of March.
Strathclyde Police Superintendent Jim Coubrough, Sub-Divisional Officer for North Ayrshire, said: "We are delighted to see another eight CCTV cameras in Dalry, Largs and Kilbirnie.
"This joint initiative with North Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership and North Ayrshire CCTV Limited is yet another example of working together for the benefit of local residents.
"CCTV has been shown to be an effective resource in both tracking and deterring criminals in North Ayrshire. I expect the law-abiding majority will welcome this development."
