Lucky escape after car nosedives into Clyde at Largs
Two people had a lucky escape when their car plunged into the River Clyde in Largs.
It is believed a male driver and female passenger were in the vehicle when it plummeted into the freezing water on Greenock Road, near Holmwood Court.
Police received the report of a car going into the water at around 5.20pm on Monday, January 16.
Luckily, the pair managed to escape to the shore and the driver suffered only minor injuries.
A spokeswoman for the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) told s1largs that the victims were saved from the car before rescue teams arrived and were taken to the police station.
She said: “A lady called us and said that this car had gone into the water.
“We did send a helicopter and lifeboat but by the time we got there they had been pulled ashore.”
A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: “It's not clear yet how the car got into the water.
“It’s believed that a man and woman were inside the vehicle at the time, and managed to escape.”
The spokeswoman also told s1largs that the car was completely submerged in the water.
It is believed to have been recovered later when the tide went out.
